Amanda Horvath

Amanda started her artistic career at an early age showing a great aptitude for drawing and

painting. After graduating at Sheffield Hallam University with a first class honours degree she

became a lecturer in art specializing in drawing and painting.

Now living in Derbyshire her work is derived from observation of the natural world, dramatic

light, wide open spaces and gentle woodlands. Gathering visual material en plein air in response

to the world around her, Amanda makes rapid drawings in her sketchbook or uses a camera,

translating these preliminary pieces into finished paintings. Works are created in oils or acrylics

applying layer on layer until the painting reaches a natural conclusion, often painting impasto with

a palette knife and scratching into the paint. The finished works are a celebration of the beauty of

nature expressed in vibrant colour and textural surfaces invoking the ever changing moods of the

land.
